RENO, Nev. — The Mountain West delayed the start of Friday’s cross-country championships by a half hour because of frost on the course.
But for the red-hot, No. 1 University of New Mexico women, it hardly mattered.
Led by league runner-up Courtney Frerichs, the Lobo women placed seven runners in the top 12 and captured their eighth-straight team conference title in resounding fashion on the Montréux Golf Club’s difficult, rolling course.
The Lobos, who have won every Mountain West title since 2008, scored 24 team points. Their The Lobos’ 47-point victory over runner-up and No. 9 Boise State is the largest since now-departed member BYU registered a 51-point win over New Mexico, 23-74, in 2005.
