Cross-country: Lobo, Aggie run away with league honors

University of New Mexico cross-country runner Courtney Frerichs was named the Mountain West women’s cross-country runner of the week for meets contested last Friday and Saturday.

Frerichs, a senior from Nixa, Mo., by way of Missouri-Kansas City, placed second overall and guided the top-ranked Lobo women to a dominant victory at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Friday.

In her first race for New Mexico, Frerichs finished in 16 minutes, 27 seconds over the 5-kilometer trek at the Burke Golf Course. It was her fastest time over a 5K cross-country course in her collegiate career.

Frerichs moved from fourth place to runner-up near the end, running her final kilometer in 3:08.
