ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico junior men’s tennis player Hayden Sabatka and sophomore women’s golfer Ingrid Gutierrez are the Mountain West athletes of the week in their respective sports, the league announced Wednesday.
Sabatka knocked of Tulsa’s No. 53-ranked Or Ram-Harel 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, at the No. 1 singles position to clinch a 4-3 UNM upset of the No. 18-ranked Golden Hurricane on Sunday at UNM.
Gutierrez finished 13th of 98 golfers at the Red Raider Invitational in Lubbock, Texas, which ended Saturday, firing a 6-over-par 222. She is ranked 100th nationally by GolfStat.
ACADEMICS: New Mexico State’s women’s golf and tennis teams are among the 649 women’s programs earning the NCAA Public Recognition Award.
