ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Earlier this summer when Cole Gautsche was selected to represent the 2016 Lobos at Mountain West Football Media Days in Las Vegas, the league office asked for action pictures of him for a large banner. There were none to be found in 2015. There were pictures of Gautsche, who usually wore a neon hat and helped call in signals from the sidelines. None however in action.
That's because the 2015 season was one of transition for Cole Gautsche, moving from quarterback to tight end. It was also a redshirt season for Gautsche, who as a true freshman went from riding a yellow school bus to games to playing in front of 100,990 fans in Texas within a span of nine months.
