It took an extra inning to do it, but a two-run single from junior outfielder Jeff Deimling, as well as a solid outing from sophomore reliever Nathaniel Garley, willed the University of New Mexico baseball team to its first win of the season over Cal Poly, 3-1, on Saturday in Surprise, Arizona.

Senior outfielder Danny Collier led the 10th inning with a single, before a sac-bunt led to the Lobos’ first out. But junior outfielder Jared Mang laid down a bunt, which Cal Poly threw away, to put runners in scoring position. From there, Deimling connected on a pitch for a two-run single, ultimately giving his team the win.
