ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — According to the San Diego Union-Tribune story linked to here, the Mountain West Conference basketball tournaments (men’s and women’s) likely will continue to be played at The Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev., league member UNLV’s home court.
The current contract expires after this year’s tournaments, and there’s been a push for a different site in Vegas. But, financially, the Thomas & Mack just makes too much sense.
When Steve Alford arrived at UNM in 2007, he couldn’t understand why the conference tournament was about making money. In the Big Ten, it was all about qualifying teams for the postseason.
