Analysis: Neal’s departure is good for everyone

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Lobo basketball said goodbye on Monday to the most controversial player in a program history that goes back to an 8-6 loss to the Albuquerque Guards in 1900.

Cullen Neal, son of University of New Mexico head coach Craig Neal, announced in a news release that he will transfer after three seasons as a Lobo.

His statement did not mention death threats that his father said he had received. It did not mention the boos that occasionally rained down on him – not from opposing fans, but from the friendly confines of the Pit.
