The New Jersey Devils have a Jacob Markstrom problem. Despite the team's 13-5-1 record, a handful of those wins have come without much help from Jacob Markstrom. The soon-to-be 36-year-old netminder has been in a slump since coming back from a lower-body injury he sustained in mid-October. In the six-game span after returning, Markstrom has posted a 3-2-1 record with a rough .871 save percentage (SV%) and a 3.81 goals against average (GAA). Simply put, he's nowhere near the level that he, the team, or the fans expect him to be at.
What has frustrated the fanbase more is that this is all happening after the Gävle, Sweden native signed a two-year contract extension almost three weeks ago, with a cap hit of $6 million in each of those seasons.
