Two shorthanded goals put the Devils in an early hole, and despite rallying to erase three leads, they couldn't beat the Boston Bruins.
The Bruins took a 4-3 lead at 11:55 of the third period when defenseman Adam McQuaid sent a long shot from the right point toward net, where it found its way past Devils goalie Eddie Lack. That proved to be the winner in a 5-3 Bruins win on Sunday at the Prudential Center in Newark.
The Devils couldn't answer the rest of the way after tying the game three separate times over the first two periods, and the Bruins sealed it with a Patrice Bergeron empty netter with 38.
