Good morning! If you're a New Jersey sports fan who likes a little extra incentive to watch your favorite team -- or, for that matter, any team -- play a game, today is like Christmas in June. At 10:30 a.m., Gov. Phil Murphy will make the first legalized sports bet in state history at Monmouth Park.
Murphy isn't saying what, exactly, he'll bet on, but he made it clear in an interview on WFAN that the timing of today's launch is no coincidence. The first bets will be accepted just a half hour before the first game of the 2018 World Cup, when host nation Russia plays Saudi Arabi in Moscow.
