The New Jersey Devils know that Ty Smith has the potential to be an absolute stud once he reaches the National Hockey League. He might struggle at first but it is clear that he has the talent to make himself into a very good player one day. The Devils took him with the 17th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. He currently plays for the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL.
It came to a bit of a surprise to people who follow this Devils team that Smith didn’t make the NHL roster. He was one of the final cuts in 2018-19, so the following year seemed to be a lock.
