NEWARK -- Blake Speers knows what it takes to make an NHL team -- he did it last season -- but so far in Devils training camp, he has seen an even higher level of competition.
The 20-year-old forward could enter his first full pro season in 2017-18 after a brief three-game stint with the Devils last October, and he has seen an elevated urgency throughout training camp.
"They made it clear this year we're not a team that's going to get walked over," Speers told NJ Advance Media. "You can see that in this camp.
