A Hall-of-Fame defenseman is escaping the Wild.
Scott Stevens, the former hard-hitting New Jersey Devils captain, has stepped down as assistant coach for the Minnesota Wild after one season, citing family reasons.
"That's the toughest part of the job, moving away from your house and being away from your family," Stevens, whose family resides in New York, told the Wild website on Tuesday. "I need them, and that's what it comes down to."
After leading the Devils to the franchise's only three Stanley Cups, Stevens was named an assistant coach with the team in 2012.
