Somi “progressing very well” as he resumes non-contact training after head injury

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Gabriel Somi is “progressing very well” four days after suffering a head injury that forced him out of the New England Revolution’s home opener in the 17th minute.

Somi was involved in a violent collision with Colorado Rapids forward Jack McBean, who was issued a yellow card after arriving late to a 50-50 challenge. Chris Tierney replaced Somi at left back and ultimately scored the game-winning goal with a last-gasp free kick.

Players had Monday and Tuesday off – in part because of the heavy snow that blanketed the Northeast – but there was good news on Wednesday morning as Somi joined his teammates for a portion of training as they returned to the field at Gillette Stadium.
