The New England Revolution coaching staff was hoping that Wednesday’s game against the Portland Timbers would be a big one for Charlie Davies. The striker had been struggling with a hamstring injury for the last few weeks, limiting him to only cameo appearances since March 12. With a close eye on his health, it was decided that Wednesday would be the perfect opportunity to reintroduce Davies to the starting lineup.
Then came the disappointment.
Deep into the first half, Davies fell to the turf with a groin injury. Unable to continue, Davies made way for Juan Agudelo in the 35th minute, forcing head coach Jay Heaps to burn an early sub.
