CHESTER, Pa. – With six potential starters missing because of international duty, injuries, and suspension, Sunday evenings’s visit to Talen Energy Stadium was an opportunity for several New England Revolution reserves to step into the spotlight.
Unfortunately, it was an opportunity that passed the Revs by as they suffered a 3-0 loss to the Philadelphia Union, their third straight defeat in league play.
“Opportunities (were there) for guys to step up,” said head coach Jay Heaps. “There’s going to be no excuses from our end.”
“I just think too many guys weren’t up for the challenge,” added Donnie Smith, who played 53 minutes at left back in his first start since last April.
