Saturday marked the debut of Gillette Stadium’s new turf, which was advertised as the “the newest, most advanced monofilament FieldTurf surface available.” The New England Revolution played on the surface on Saturday and noted that it’s an upgrade over what they had before.
“We’re excited about it because we think last year’s surface definitely at the end there had too much sand in it,” head coach Jay Heaps explained.
The Revs have played on turf since 2006 when Gillette Stadium transitioned away from grass. Although it’s sometimes criticized, playing on an artificial surface certainly gives the Revolution a unique home-field advantage.
