The Revolution entered Wednesday’s U.S. Open Cup match with three active goalkeepers and just 14 active field players. But that roster configuration didn’t shake the home side, as the Revs used goals from Diego Fagundez and Brian Wright to take down D.C. United, 2-1.
Before many Revolution fans found their seat, Teal Bunbury got things started offensively by clanking a broken corner off the far post. D.C. immediately took advantage of the missed opportunity, using strong hold-up play from Julian Buscher to grab an early lead. In the 7th minute, Buscher danced along the Revolution touchline, maintained possession and fed Ian Harkes with a pass out wide.
