From top to bottom, the Revolution roster looks vaguely familiar. The 2018 version of the club doesn’t look that much different than the 2017 version that finished 7th in the Eastern Conference last season. The addition of attacker Cristian Penilla and defender Gabriel Somi could pay dividends for first-year coach Brad Friedel, though the team failed to land the impact player fans longed to see.
Meanwhile, the top of the Eastern Conference continued to get better. Defending Champions Toronto FC added several depth pieces. Atlanta United added midfielders Ezequiel Barco and Darlington Nagbe. And the Red Bulls added winger Alejandro Romero Gamarra.
