FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Lee Nguyen took another major step on his international odyssey this week when he joined the U.S. National Team for a pair of World Cup qualifiers against Guatemala.
Nguyen has made five appearances with the USMNT since late 2014, when he burst back onto the international scene following a seven-year absence. But all five of those appearances were in friendlies, including a pair of starts against Iceland and Canada earlier this year.
This home-and-home set with Guatemala is a different beast, as Nguyen will be hoping to make his first-ever appearance in a World Cup qualifier and his first appearance in a non-friendly since 2007, when he made a pair of substitute appearances in Copa America.
