In 2010, Clay was drafted to the Philadelphia Eagles and stayed with the team for three years. Then he moved to the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he played for another three years. Clay signed with the New England Patriots in 2016 but was cut shortly into the season. That's when he was picked up by the Detroit Lions.
