New York (AFP) - Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce offered an apology of sorts to Super Bowl referee Carl Cheffers during a television interview Thursday after saying he should never officiate again.
Kelce was upset after the Chiefs lost 18-16 to visiting Pittsburgh in the second round of the NFL playoffs. Cheffers whistled Chiefs offensive tackle Eric Fisher for holding to nullify a two-point conversion that would have pulled Kansas City level in the final seconds.
Afterwards, Kelce said Cheffers should never again don the official's black and white striped shirt, not even in a shoe store chain where every employee wears such tops.
