Reports: Cam Newton leaves Patriots practice field early after having hand examined

Cam Newton left a New England Patriots OTA drill early on Friday after having his hand examined, according to multiple reports.

NBC Sports Boston's Phil Perry reports that the Patriots quarterback excused himself from drills about an hour into practice to speak with team doctor Mark Price and head trainer Jim Whalen. According to the report, they focused on Newton's right hand as they spoke. Team owner Robert Kraft and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels then joined the group to check on Newton, per the report.

Newton remained on the field, but didn't participate in any more drills, per the reports.
