The Patriots released wide receiver Kendrick Bourne on Wednesday, according to ESPN.
The move comes one day after Tuesday’s deadline to trim the roster to 53 players. Bourne made the initial round of cuts, but ultimately ended up asking for the team to let him go, according to the report.
The Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan reported that the Patriots failed to finalize a trade that would have involved Bourne going to Minnesota.
Boston.com listed Bourne as one of five potential “surprise cut” candidates earlier in the preseason. Four of the five players on the list ended up either being cut or placed on injured reserve.
