Former New England Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne is returning home to the San Francisco 49ers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday.
The veteran wideout reportedly signed a one-year deal with a maximum value of $5 million.
Bourne originally signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Washington. He spent four seasons with the team before signing with the Patriots in 2021. With Josh McDaniels as his offensive coordinator that year, he had a career season with 55 receptions for 800 yards and five touchdowns.
That's why it came as a surprise when he asked to be released from the Patriots after making the initial 53-man roster.
