Patriots were finalist for Stefon Diggs trade, declined to match Bills offer (report)

Apparently the Patriots almost landed one of the NFL’s most electrifying playmakers last March.

According to Ian Rapoport, when the Vikings decided to trade Stefon Diggs, New England was one of two finalists. The NFL Network insider reports the Patriots were actually given a chance to match Buffalo’s offer, but Bill Belichick declined.

Ultimately, Minnesota sent Diggs and a seventh-rounder to the Buffalo for first, fourth, fifth, and sixth-round picks. It was a steep price to pay, but Diggs has been more than worth it. The wide receiver was named a First Team All-Pro this season, leading the league with 127 catches for 1,535 yards.
