Patriots take a closer look at free-agent RB Daryl Richardson

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- One day after the New England Patriots placed Dion Lewis on season-ending injured reserve, sparking questions on the possibility of adding another player at running back, they worked out free agent Daryl Richardson of Abilene Christian.

The 5-foot-10, 196-pound Richardson entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft choice of the St. Louis Rams in 2012. He played in every game as a rookie, totaling 98 carries for 475 yards and 24 receptions for 163 yards as a complement to lead rusher Stephen Jackson.

In 2013, he appeared in eight games (3 starts) and had 69 rushes for 215 yards, as well as 14 receptions for 121 yards.
