Patriots Strengthen Quarterback Depth Via Waivers

The New England Patriots added a new name to their quarterback mix Wednesday when they claimed Tommy DeVito on waivers.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report the transaction.

DeVito hit the market one day earlier after the New York Giants cut him as part of their roster trim-down. His release followed the organization’s offseason moves at the position, with Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston and rookie Jaxson Dart all earning roster spots ahead of him.

Giants coach Brian Daboll praised DeVito’s effort during camp and preseason but said roster construction made it impossible to keep four quarterbacks, according to the Associated Press.
