Patriots release Cyrus Jones, potentially opens door for Mike Gillislee return

For the second time in about a month, the Patriots have released cornerback Cyrus Jones.

The former second round pick was cut in September, but returned to the Patriots to provide some help on punt returns with Julian Edelman serving a four-game suspension. With Edelman back in the fold, the team expects him to field most punts moving forward.

By releasing Jones, the Patriots open a roster spot. After the Saints released Mike Gillislee on the same day, it's possible the ex-Patriot running back makes a return to New England.
