Throughout all of summer, the signs kept pointing to Jacoby Brissett eventually being named New England Patriots starting quarterback. He continued to be the first passer up in practice and started all three preseason games, with rookie challenger Drake Maye steadily setting into the No. 2 spot on the depth chart.
And yet, an aura of uncertainty surrounded the position with the regular season opener looming on the horizon. With no starter being named, could there be a chance that Maye ended up as QB1?
Turns out, no.
On Thursday, Jerod Mayo informed the players involved and his entire team that Brissett would enter the 2024 season as the starter; first-round draft pick Maye would serve as his backup.
