The New England Patriots had a few extra bodies at mandatory minicamp on Monday, having invited linebacker Wes Steiner and offensive lineman Marcus Wehr on a tryout basis, per Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald.
Who doesn’t love a nice longshot story?
Steiner, 22, is an intriguing prospect, having spent the majority of his collegiate career at Auburn (2020-2023) before transferring to Washington State for his final season of eligibility (2024). The Patriots likely are intrigued by his athleticism, having seen him turn in a 4.39-second 40-yard dash and 39-inch vertical jump, both the best of any participants, at his pro day in March.
