Prior to free agency, Jerod Mayo tried to tame the hype.
Speaking with MassLive at the NFL’s Scouting Combine, he walked back the “we’re ready to burn some cash” comment he made on WEEI shortly after he was hired.
At that point, it was probably too late. The genie was already out of the bottle.
After hearing Mayo’s initial battle cry, the fan base was charged up about the prospects of burning cash on some of the top free agents. They were giddy about the possibilities.
