Patriots great Tedy Bruschi recovering from a stroke

On Friday, the Tedy’s Team Foundation announced via Instagram that namesake and former New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi suffered a stroke on Thursday afternoon and is currently recovering. The statement, which is also asking for privacy but not providing much additional information about the 46-year-old’s status, reads as follows:

The stroke is not the first the Patriots Hall of Famer has suffered: in February 2005, Bruschi was hospitalized because of a mild stroke but did return to the gridiron just eight months later. The three-time Super Bowl champion, who appeared in a combined 211 regular season and playoff games over the course of his 13-year career with the Patriots, was subsequently named the NFL’s comeback player of the year.
