Patriots cut veteran receiver after he asked to be released

A veteran receiver wanted out of New England, and on Wednesday, the Patriots granted his request.

According to a source, the Patriots are releasing Kendrick Bourne a day after keeping him on their initial 53-man roster.

The timing is interesting considering the Patriots had Bourne on their roster at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and opted to keep eight receivers. However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Bourne asked to be released.

The Patriots reportedly talked with other teams about trading Bourne, but a deal never materialized. According to the Boston Herald, the Patriots were in trade talks with Minnesota, but that deal fell through when the Vikings traded for Adam Thielen on Wednesday morning.
