The 4 p.m. deadline came and went, and the Patriots complied, trimming their roster down to 75. To do so, they waived offensive lineman Chris Barker and linebacker D.J. Lynch. They also moved injured fullback James Develin (broken tibia) and cornerback Darryl Roberts (wrist) to injured reserve.
The Pats might have held out on both the veteran Develin, an important role player, and the rookie Roberts, who showed a lot of promise, but needed the roster spots.
Both Josh Boyce and Jonathan Krause joined them on IR after clearing waivers. It should be noted linebacker Dane Fletcher and defensive lineman Chris Jones will start the regular season on the PUP list.
