The New England Patriots released a guard they drafted just last year.
Layden Robinson was waived Sunday with an injury designation, the team announced. The 2024 fourth-round pick was absent from Sunday’s practice.
If Robinson clears waivers, it’s possible he ends up on injured reserve.
Robinson played three snaps on special teams in New England’s preseason finale against the New York Giants.
The 24-year-old played in 13 games (11 starts) for the Patriots last season. He made six starts at right guard and five at left guard.
Robinson was once believed to have a bright future as a strong run-blocking guard.
