New England Patriots pleased with J.J. Taylor’s debut: ‘He can play hide and seek really well with the guys’

J.J. Taylor only got four carries in Sunday’s win over the Dolphins, but he made them count.

The undrafted rookie racked up 28 yards on the ground and caught a pass out of the backfield, too. At 5-foot-6, the speedy back seemed to disappear behind the offensive line before bursting through it. Taylor’s performance may have surprised people watching at home — and the Dolphins — but not the Patriots coaching staff.

“About what I hoped for and actually what I expected," running backs coach Ivan Fears said via video call on Wednesday.
