Matthew Slater on Danny Amendola hit: Gunners are 'coached to be aware for that situation'

FOXBOROUGH — Occasionally you'll see a gunner light up a punt returner, but rarely does punt returner de-cleat a gunner.

That's what made Danny Amendola's hit on Jamell Fleming in the AFC divisional round so stunning.

On Saturday, Amendola opted not to field a high-hanging punt near the goal line, and when Kansas City gunner Jamell Fleming waited for the ball to drop, Amendola blasted Fleming.

A flag was thrown for unnecessary roughness, but as Bill Belichick pointed out, "(Amendola) didn't give a fair catch signal so he's allowed to block." Amendola was flagged for the severity of the hit, not for the fact that he chose to hit Fleming.
