In his mind, there was never much of a doubt. Jacoby Brissett continued to see himself as, and prepare like, the New England Patriots’ starting quarterback even as first-round rookie Drake Maye made a late push in the summer.
However, despite Maye showing some promising progress in training camp and preseason, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo made the unsurprising announcement last Thursday: Brissett would be the team’s starter heading into the 2024 regular season.
Despite being in his ninth year in the NFL, heading into a season as starting quarterback is an unfamiliar experience for Brissett.
