Even though he showed some encouraging progress over the course of his first training camp, Drake Maye will begin the 2024 NFL season in a backup capacity. The first-round rookie, who was selected third overall in this year’s draft, was named the New England Patriots’ No. 2 quarterback by head coach Jerod Mayo last week.
While veteran Jacoby Brissett remains ahead of him on the depth chart, Maye’s future is set in stone. The 22-year-old will eventually take over as the Patriots’ starter either further down the line this season, or at the very least in 2025.
