How Boston newscasts covered the Patriots’ Super Bowl victory

During the celebrations on Boston Common after the Patriots’ Super Bowl victory, a young man climbed a light pole and tried to knock out the lamp on top. Police swarmed the pole and pulled the man down, then an officer grabbed him by the shirt.

“What gives you the right to break city property?” the officer asked, per NBC10’s Perry Russom. “Nothing. You’re a moron.”

Russom, reporting live from the Common, wrote down the quote to ensure he could accurately deliver it to those watching the merriment from the comfort of their couch.

The Boston television stations provided wall-to-wall coverage of Super Bowl 53, interviewing everyone from the players and owner to the weary fans landing back at Logan Airport Monday morning.
