San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Tuesday that quarterback Mac Jones will miss the team’s preseason finale against the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday due to a sprained knee.
The former New England Patriots signal-caller suffered the injury during San Francisco’s preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders last Saturday.
Shanahan added that Jones should be good to go as Brock Purdy’s backup in Week 1.
The 26-year-old is entering his first season in the Bay Area after signing a two-year, $8.4 million contract with the 49ers in March.
