Sunday’s game between the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos marked the first time in six years that Matthew Slater was unable to suit up. The veteran special teamer was ruled out before the game due to a hamstring injury, and therefore had to watch the action from the sideline.
But despite his inactivity, the 38-year-old still handled a lot of his usual game day responsibility. Slater continued serving as a team leader, and assisted both his teammates and the coaching staff during the 26-23 victory.
Patriots special teams coordinator Cam Achord compared Slater to another coach on the sideline, highlighting his knowledge of the operation and involvement with the players.
