President Donald Trump will award New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick the Medal of Freedom on Thursday, according to multiple reports.
Trump will award the nation’s highest civilian honor to the longtime NFL coach with just days remaining in his presidency. Belichick is the only coach to win six Super Bowl titles and is one of the most successful football coaches in NFL history.
Trump is scheduled to give Belichick the award as House Democrats look to impeach him after a violent pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol Building that resulted in five deaths last week. Many of Trump’s critics and lawmakers from both parties have blamed the president for inciting the mob.
