Darrelle Revis tells backstory on Jets burying football after blowout loss to Patriots

After a 45-3 blowout loss to the New England Patriots in 2010, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan infamously buried a football to put the game to bed.

The team was extremely confused as Ryan walked them to the practice field and held a funeral for the football. Hall of Fame cornerback Darrelle Revis even said it was Ryan’s best motivational tactic.

“I’ve never seen a coach do that,” Revis said. “We all got the point. Usually, in the past, you hear a coach say, ‘Let’s bury this’ and you have to visualize it.
