A West Barnstable resident will announce the New England Patriots’ first draft pick tonight in Cleveland. The team has announced that Don Cox, president and CEO of the USA Veterans and Military Support Foundation, will be the Pats’ announcer for its 15th overall pick.
"I’m thrilled,” Cox said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime deal.”
Cox’s selection is part of the NFL’s “Draft-A-Thon" initiative, which aims to use the draft as a way to call attention to relief organizations that have been active during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cox’s organization, sometimes abbreviated “USA 4 Vets,” is focused primarily on overcoming food security and food distribution throughout the region, and Cox said during the pandemic he’s delivered 42.
