This is the worst part about Deflategate: Everybody hates somebody.
Nobody brings casual interest to this story. It’s not like you’re perusing the box score from yesterday’s Mets-Pirates game over your morning coffee or glancing at a feature about a local high school phenom who has committed to take his game to one of the big colleges. This isn’t the Boston Park League roundup, bringing news that Grossman Marketing has toppled Palmer Club.
This is Deflategate, and it inspires a brand of hatred as strong and as dangerous as Prohibition-era bathtub gin.
Everyone in New England still loves embattled quarterback Tom Brady, sure, but do not be fooled by the local roar.
