Alex Collins NFL Draft profile: Ex-Arkansas RB would fit in well with New England Patriots

INDIANAPOLIS — Why go cheap at running back?

Consider: In the 2015 NFL season, 37 NFL running backs topped 800 yards from scrimmage. Eighteen of those backs, nearly half, had been in the league three years or less. And 16 of those 18 had been taken in the second round or later.

Of the 37 players, nine were former first-round picks. Six were undrafted. Twelve were drafted in either the second or third round, leaving 10 selected in the fourth round or later.

Point is, there is talent to be had everywhere. And there is a strong case to be made for finding an affordable running back in the draft rather than spending in free agency.
