Instant Reaction: Patriots Clinch First-Round Bye With 17-16 Win Over Jets

New York came out playing inspired football against the Patriots, and held a 10-7 lead at the half. However, New England responded with a 10 unanswered points to take the lead, and then held on the win. The Patriots have now clinched a first-round bye in the AFC Playoffs, and will clinch home field advantage if the Denver Broncos lose on Monday night.

Turning Point:

After the Jets picked off Tom Brady late in the fourth quarter, Nick Folk missed a 52-yard field goal that would've given New York the win. Instead, the Patriots got the ball back and were able to ice the game.

Key Stat:

The Jets only managed to score one touchdown in this game, and were forced to settle for three field goals. If they were able to convert just one of those long drives into touchdowns, they would've come out on top.

New England MVP:

Tom Brady didn't have his best game, but he did enough to take care of business. He completed 23/35 passes for 182 yards and touchdown.

New York MVP:

Quarterback Geno Smith almost led his team to one of the biggest upsets of the NFL year, passing for 210 yards and a touchdown.
