With win over rival UNLV, Wolf Pack stays alive at Mountain West baseball tournament

Beating your bitter rival is certainly one way to stay alive in an elimination tournament.

Behind solid pitching and timely hitting, Nevada beat UNLV, 7-3, at the Mountain West baseball tournament Friday in San Diego, advancing to the losers’-bracket final and also eliminating the Rebels from the event.

Nevada improved to 29-25; the Wolf Pack will play Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against either Air Force or San Jose State. UNLV dropped to 36-22.

Wolf Pack starter Kade Morris went 8.2 innings for the win. Infielder Josh Zamora hit two home runs — his fourth two-homer game of the season — as Nevada took an early lead and then held on.
